My wife and I (gf at the time) were driving through Nevada in my 18 wheeler in the middle of July in a serious heat wave. We stopped at the only place with a bathroom we had seen in a few hours and slept for the night. Right by the truck was a sign that said “next services 118 miles". We were hours from the nearest area people would congregate in any way so this little podunk store/gas station was crowded nonstop. Come morning time, we climbed out of the truck to get something to eat… out of the whole crowd of at least 50 people making pit stops, this guy walked right up to us, layer down and showed us his belly and kept whimpering like “please help me". He was COVERED in ticks and so starved and dehydrated it took over a week of tiny drinks and tiny treats before he could have a real drink/meal without immediately puking it all up. The vet said if we had rescued him even a day later he would have died. He was RIGHT on the edge of “salvageable”… This is him a few years later when he realized we were going to the dog park.
Good man.
