  1. #1 Not much to say about that, is there?

    #3 Truth.
#4 But that Santa is white....
#5 Yup. Or it will be buried by their algorithm so that no one sees it.
    #6 Good one.
    #7 No surprise.
    #8 Ditto
#9 Because they can afford a good tax man and accountant to do that for them.
#10 Not sure what the first part of this has to do with the last half, but there isn't any doubt about the last half.
    Thanks, Odie.
You all be safe and God bless.

  4. Not having people talk religion and politics was the Protestants' way of keeping themselves in power.

  5. The share short sale snippet about the Lauders is not really accurate or fair. The maneuver might delay taxes, but it might lose money or even increase taxes depending on what the market does. Because at some point the borrowed shares have to be returned, and the only way the Lauders can get those shares is to buy them or use their own

If the share price is up and they use their own they have then sold them and pay a higher tax then. If they buy them it costs them more than they got paid on the original sale.

If the share price is down, and they use their own they have sold them and pay a lower tax then. But they still pay a tax. If they buy them it costs them less than they got, but they are still in profit and pay taxes on that profit.

Given that the shares are this morning worth 145.00 each, the Lauders got bad advice and made a bad deal. The shares have appreciated in value at 7%+ and paid good dividends for 25 years.

Even worse, the taxes in either profit scenario are income taxes, higher than the capital gain taxes they would have paid in the first place.

    1. Anon, I'm a low finance kind of guy at best. I deal with a lot less zeros. I posted your comment so we can all learn from you. Thanks.

Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.
