Long long time since I've had any, but we used to tie a feather to a string, tie string to ceiling fan, turn fan on lowest setting and watch cat go round and round.
mer, my last cat thought he was a dog. If I were gardening he would curl up next to me. If I moved he would follow and get next to me again. He did the same in the garage when I was working.

Take masking tape, outline a box on the floor. Your cat will sit in the "box".
