    That risk-of-death chart of diseases vs. vaccines reminds me of the New York Times reporter Fox Butterfield, who made a career out of stories with headlines like "Prison Populations Continue to Increase Despite Declining Crime Rates." A certain inability to evaluate causes and effects. People who think the vaccines are more harmful than the diseases themselves used to be tinfoil-hat-conspiracy-nuts but unfortunately this lunacy seems to be spreading into the mainstream, to the detriment of us all. Especially our kids. The fact that mortality from polio, mumps, measles, etc. is so low is BECAUSE of vaccination, not despite it. Whoever pulled these chart numbers out of their butt ought to look at death rates from these diseases about 100 years ago, before universal vaccination. And don't forget things like blindness and deafness, which were frequent results of "harmless" childhood diseases like measles. This chart and the rationale behind it is ignorant, pernicious nonsense.
