For starters tips are a gift from one person to another; it is not income. For SS it was not taxed at all for decades, until a bill was passed during the Biden era. Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote. I don’t know about the overtime part, but I do know a large number of unionized government workers (eg cops, firemen, toll collectors) often nearly double their salaries via overtime. So im for the first two but not really in favor of the last one.
Think about it. What percentage of tips are reported anyway? I'd guess less than 5% ... so why not let the poor working stiffs have a little joy in their lives?
Whatever is shown being voted on is not the current No Tips bill (House 482 Senate 129). That bill is referred to committee in both arenas. The picture shown has been altered; text changed . It’s likely from last year’s Resolution 14, which was a stopgap funding to keep the fed gov running.
There are a number of states that have a No Tip tax and a no SS tax bill in progress, but this is at the state level only.
There are a lot of false memes out there, both sides.
Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.

CA invented the vigilantes 174 years ago. Time to reinvent them.
ReplyDeleteedutcher, Placerville? Not far from here.

I would vote "NO" for no tax on tips and OT.
ReplyDeleteWhy should that form of income not be taxed?
Thinking is hard for you I reckon.

Or conversely, why should any of your labor be taxed. The gubbermint didn't make the effort...you did. Thieves!

DeleteMatthew W, I'd like to see everyone's taxes cut, this is a start.
DeleteBirdchaser, he'll catch on, I hope.
DeleteDrew458, I would just like government to do with less.
DeleteAnon, can't argue with that.
DeleteJohn, all of the states in these parts make you report every penny.
