Antique Tool

Do you know what it is?

Tobacco Smoke Enema Kit
(1750s – 1810s).

The tobacco enema was used to infuse tobacco smoke into a patient's rectum for various medical purposes, but primarily the resuscitation of drowning victims.

A rectal tube inserted into the anus was connected to a fumigator and bellows that forced the smoke into the rectum. The warmth of the smoke was thought to promote respiration.

Doubts about the credibility of tobacco enemas led to the popular phrase "blowing smoke up your ass." As you are most likely aware, this odd tool is still heavily used by all levels of government today.

Kind of like doctors "massaging the womb to induce paroxysms to relieve hysteria" led to the electric massager.

Yes, I knew what this was. I know about blowing smoke too. I'm smart that way.

Have a fabulous day. ☺

I knew what it was too. Now, what exactly does that say about me? Makes me shudder...

Adrienne, Hmmm, why is it that we all know what this is?

One good fart near a mechanic might result in a quote for a ring job!

Mac, it's been done and resulted in great smoke rings.
