The dumbest thing I've ever done was to get off of active duty. Loved being a Corpsman with my Marines, and my Devil Dogs loved me. We had some of the best times and some of the worst, but thank God for every one of them.
I don't want to be "thanked for my service" by anyone who doesn't have a DD-214. I volunteered (AF, not drafted), because I believe in (and am happy to fight for) the values our country stands for; values my parents understood weren't available to them anywhere else in the world. I don't want to be "thanked for my service" by anyone who does have a DD-214; they should understand it just ain't necessary.
boron, Thank You, and I was drafted. I knew I was going to Vietnam, so why serve four 4 years.
This morning I was at Walmart. In one of the aisles there was this old (My age) guy trying to get something off of an upper shelf. The problem was he was in one of those electric carts. So I offered my help and grabbed all the things he couldn't reach. When we finished I looked closely at his hat and it said "Marines". He was happy I helped, but you couldn't of wiped the smile off of his face when I said, "Happy Veterans Day to us Marine."
Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.
