Remembering . . . . . .

We start with a banner stolen from Curmudgeon over at PCP (LINK)

I reflect below with different shots from the "Wall".

This wall represents my war as a veteran from this war.

May God Bless all who are on this Wall and those
who gave all from all of our wars.

I follow these four photos with a picture of my best
friend growing up who's name is on this wall.

William I. Mercer

  1. Lest we forget, sir.

It's not a sin to enjoy your burger today, only if you don't remember who made it possible.

  4. For love of country they accepted death and made immortal their patriotism. Old Glory flies with the last breathe of each Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine who died protecting it; not because the wind moves it.

  5. It seems almost surreal they(pols) allowed the wall to be created, but surely it is now a sobering monument for all time to those willing to allow their minds to wander into the abstracts of war and politics.

  6. Kid, I read the other day (Didn't know until then) the Wall was designed by an Asian Girl who was an architectural student still in college. It is what a Memorial of this type should be ... MOVING!

  7. Was Bill Mercer from a Washington family? I know some Mercers in the Yakima Valley who have been farming there since 1886. I have a very moving story about them, it so. There was a Mercer who was a founder of Seattle and whose name is on an island in Lake Washington. When women came here to marry loggers, fisherman, and miners, not an uncommon thing in the 1800's, they stayed on the island to keep them safe. The show "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" was vaguely based on that.

  9. Rickvid in Seattle, No, Bill was born and raised in Los Angeles. His Family was originally from Colorado, but his younger Brother has lived in Washington for the last 25 years.

Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.
