Funderwhoopee Friday ~ Giving

To the kind soul who left a dollar at Dollar Tree… thank you.

We were shopping for party favors for my soon-to-be 4-year-old’s birthday when Gage spotted something on a lower shelf.

“Look, Mom!

I found a dollar!” he exclaimed.

My first instinct was to tell him we should turn it in but when he handed it to me, I noticed a little note attached: “Please enjoy this random act of kindness 🙂.”

Both of us were surprised, and instantly, a smile spread across Gage’s face.

Right there in the aisle, we talked about how special it felt how such a simple gesture could brighten someone’s day.

Then Gage came up with an idea: what if we could make someone else feel that same happiness?

His answer was cookies.

So, we took that dollar, added a few more, and bought cookies. Together, we delivered them anonymously ringing the doorbell and running away giggling.

The joy of giving was even greater than finding that dollar.

To whoever left that gift: thank you. It wasn’t about the money it was about the lesson.

You gave my son an experience he couldn’t have learned from words alone. And you sparked a chain of kindness that will keep going.

  1. Sharing is not generally something you have to teach, some kids have that trait others do not.

  2. This is one of the reasons I like shopping at Aldis with their 25¢ carts. Leaving a cart in the corral for another shopper to use for free, or offering it to someone heading in with a "pay it forward" approach seems to lighten everyone's mood. Even though it is only 25¢.

    1. Anon, please don't yell that from the roof tops. Gavin Newsom will make it law here in California.

  3. Whenever I find money on the ground it goes into a tip cup or donation cup. I never keep it no matter how much is found.

  4. Cute story, and I don't know about you but I would never eat something that was left on my doorstep anonymously!

Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.
