DeleteBack in 1977 during Christmas break, my GF (now wife) and I visited friends in SoCal. One of the friends had a Hobie Cat that we were sailing off Laguna Beach. A guy we dubbed New Zealand Rob and I were out on it about a mile off the coast when we see a California Grey whale breach about 20’ away. It went right under the boat and we watched it glide just under the keels and then breach another 50’ or so away from us. We were mesmerized. After it was gone we looked at each other and grinned saying what a killer story that will make, and what if the whale had decided to rise up under us? Very exciting.
