DeleteNo, no, no to the Chinese should own no American farmland item. It is as wrong as my fellow Canadians screaming about Americans owning so much Canadian oil and gas producing land.

But watch them and tax them at perhaps 20% more than locals would pay.
If there is war between China and the US what will the Chinese do, load the land into trucks and ship it to Shanghai? No, they'll lose it when the US seizes it as they did to German owned property in both world wars.
Ownership of US land by big cheese Chinese is actually a hedge against war. If Xi owns a bunch of US property do you think he is more or less likely to try to bomb it or lose it?

DeleteWorked for an real estate lawyer in Illinois. Still at that time they have on their books a law that a foreign person could buy land as long as they became a US citizen within 7 years. If they did not comply then the state could reclaim the property with no payment to the owner. Case of too bad so sad. We have our laws.
