  1. I'll second the concept of recording family history for future generations. Also don't shy away from the less flattering aspects of people. It is what humanizes them. Affairs, broken promises, children out of wedlock, fights, murder, all make for interesting reading. If you can tie it into historical events, all the better.

    Don't know where to start? Get a notebook and start writing. What was the worst thing about school? What was the best thing about growing up? What was that one thing thst grandpa always did? Eventually think of a person and write what you know about them. If the ideas come to fast, write the enough to jog your memory and then come back to those stories.
