Odie - for the life of me I can't remember what they were at the PX in '66-'68. I do remember that I used to buy 5 cartons (not packs) at a time: G-d forbid I should run out (and yes! I was that addicted to "Marbles").
The coke machine I used as a kid wouldn't take more than 15 cents. But i will say tha there was a sign on top that was for your additional quarter because they were $0.40c.
stine2469, I had a Texaco station around the corner and they had the bottles in a machine that were so cold they had a little ice in them for 10 cents.
I remember when it was one silver dime. And you could trick the machine by coating your dime in mercury and using it. It wuold slip thru the mechanism and you have your dime back and get a pop!
Put it here ... I can't wait to read it. I have the Captcha turned OFF but blogger insists it be there. You should be able to bypass it.

DeleteI remember cigarette machines that were .45 a pack!
ReplyDeleteI remember when you put a quarter in the machine and got a penny change in the cellophane on the bottom of the pack
DeleteMatthew, now it would take a ten dollar bill if they still had machines.
Deleteboron, I don't remember that, but I remember $1.00 for a carton at the PX.

DeleteWe had an old Coke machine in the garage growing up ... under the pealing "10 cents" sticker, read; "deposit nickel, then 2 pennies".
ReplyDeleteWas not really a 'sticker', paint was lifting ...
DeleteDjc, we had the 10 cent machine at the local Texaco.
