First, why get rid of Occasional Cortex? Every time she opens her mouth, she tells the world the Lefties are nmowhere near as smart as they think they are.
ReplyDeleteSecond, the Klan was formed by former Confederate soldiers (there's a plaque in Pulaski, TN on Bedford Forrest's old law office to that effect ). How many were Democrats is up for grabs.

DeleteYes, southern racists used to be Democrats in the 1800's and northern/liberals used to be Republicans. Time went by and in the 1960's the parties switched positions. Democrats became liberals and Republicans became conservative.
Who cares who was in the KKK 200 years ago? The real question is who is in the KKK today? Who did David Duke endorse in the last election? Supporters of what party today routinely wear KKK paraphernalia and hold confederate flags?
Ed, please read further down the page on what Nathan Forrest did later. This is generally ignored by history books.
ReplyDeleteThen again, and for the exact same reason, people think the war of succession ( we never had a civil war in this country) was about slavery. It never was.
Lincoln offered the south continued slavery if they just allowed the tarrifs and taxes. You won't find that in high school history books but it lives in the congressional record.
I learned it in 6th grade, but you're absolutely right. It was about the money.

DeleteNancy Mace is somewhat wrong. Yes the president needs to be born here. But in addition he needs to be a natural born citizen. This means, and has always meant, that both his parents needed to be citizens at the time of his birth and that he was born in this country or one of its territories. This once was universally known, since before the publication of The Law If Nations. It is entirely different from the English Natural Born Subject. Generations of willfully stupid people have written reams of misinformation saying otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mace’s idea but I take it further. Not only should the president and vice president be natural born, as required by the Constitution, but everyone in the line of succession should be as well. Take it further: all elected officials at the federal, state, and local levels should be natural born as well.
Sadly we live in an era where the schools are run by communists. Civics is no longer taught. Every law seemingly does not count until the Supreme Court has ruled on it, and nearly half the SCOTUS is anti American activists at this point.
The NBC idea should have been spelled out in simple language in the Constitution and it should have required citizenship of the grandparents as well. Too many basic ideas in it are assumed to be understood, like the term “regulated” which means two different things where it is written in the Constitution.
Drew458, Our Founders, in their infinite wisdom, never defined what they meant by, "natural born citizen". I've looked in several dictionaries, history books, and The Federalist Papers and couldn't find anything other than "Someone born in this country." Good luck in your quest.
