The Murray point about SS taxes is stupid. The reason that people making over $184K pay a smaller percentage is because $184.5K is the income limit for paying SS taxes. The income limit used to be a lot lower compared to the median wage, but they've bumped it up by almost $70K in the past 10 years, so now most people never get near it. In any case, once you do get past $184.5K, you stop paying SS taxes for income above that line. It's not an injustice - the injustice is that they keep raising the limit so average joes never get any tax relief.
ReplyDeleteFurther the 12.4% rate is only if you are self-employed, otherwise you pay 6.2% and your employer pays the other 6.2%.
DeleteOne also doesn't get bigger checks than whatever the upper limit amount gets. The bigger problem is that it has always been an unsustainable Ponzi scheme and that both the democrats and Republicans have spent all the money stolen from everyone.

DeleteThe problem with the "12.4%" figure is employer pays 6.2% and employee pays 6.2%. Not the employee paying 12.4%. Would the employer actually get 6.2% in wages from the employer?
Now we all know SS is a classic Ponzi scheme (today's payers money goes to previous enrollees) or "Yes Waldo there is no lockbox". So what if no income limit, but rate was 0.5%?
Now go to full retirement age and we all know there will be a cap: sorry you have too much in private retirement so you do not get SS.
Looked up the bugs that produce the red color. Apparently this bug has been used for thousand of years for the red color it produces. Starts as a nymph and attaches itself to a cactus plant and stays there for life. Apparently this is in many items we eat. Enjoy your red M&M and skittles. You'll find it in many item's around the world.

DeleteGMO rice allowed the rice farmers in SE Asia to grow two crops of rice a year instead of one. There are a lot of really good benefits for GMO crops.

ReplyDeleteMobility scooters are even worse than wheelchairs. Some years ago I saw an article about how a company that sold mobility scooters to the public for $1,600 got paid by medicare/medicaid over $6,000 for the exact same scooter. They charge the government the maximum the government allows them to charge.
ReplyDeleteThe last one reminded me of when my dad had a busted windshield. He had insurance but he decided to do a little detective work. He could pay out of pocket for a new one and at that time was around $250 (years ago mind you)
ReplyDeleteHis friend owned the insurance company and told my dad it would cost the insurance company 3 to 4 times that for them to replace it under his plan.

The reason government purchased mobility scooters are so expensive is that the government no longer purchases mobility scooters. They rent them monthly for two years. So were paying well over retail because small business has been forced to finiance the bills for Americans and the government they serve for two years before they can be made whole. Of course they will be stupid expensive if the plan to stupid and puts businesses in to bankruptcy. Many DME businesses refuse to submit to the system birthed by the Scooter store law suits.
ReplyDeleteThe wheelchair post is often worse. Medical supply companies usually rent you the chair, usually a 12 month rent to own, and charge a total about 10 times more than the retail price. If secondary insurance doesn’t cover the gap, the patient winds up paying about 3 times the retail price. The whole system is a rip off.
