Addendum to my last post: pill bugs are the ones that can roll up into little balls. Sow bugs are a flatter version that doesn’t roll up. Surprise! They’re both crustaceans, like crabs and crawdads! Oh, yeah! SoCal, here.
Yes, that's a "potato bug." The pill bugs, etc are "wood lice." Bear Grylls or some other survival nut says that crushing them up in water and boiling them will provide substantial protein if lost in the woods, etc. I hope to NEVER be that hungry.

Yep. That’s a potato bug, also known as a Jerusalem Cricket. They can give a painful bite!
