Not correct, at least for GA. We have a flat 4.99% rate currently but it's been slowly going down due to legislation. Most Repub candidates are campaigning to cut it in half or get it to zero in the future. Also there are income exemptions for military and people over 62.

DeleteAbsolutely. I was shocked to see GA among the 0% club. If only. And while I support the ending of slavery (a tax on income is slavery to the government), I have yet to see the government spending cuts to pay for the elimination of that or reductions in property taxes that are also proposed. I wouldn't be surprised to see massive support for data centers as the way to shore up the lost revenue though. That would be the kind of sell-out most of these candidates would surely support (over government spending cuts).

DeleteThe color chart doesn't match the tax rates shown in many states, Chart shows teal to be 1%-3%, but Michigan shows a tax rate of 4.25%. Yeah, I know, nit picking, but makes me think these charts are made up with no concern of accuracy, just purty colors.

ReplyDeleteSC is WORKING on eliminating our Income Tax but currently the top rate is still 6% in two stages. It will be a few years before it's zero.

ReplyDeleteHaving (used to) live there for 40+years I can shed some light. While there is a good amount of oil tax money flowing in, the lack of population makes it hard to spread the cost of things like infrastructure around. The ancestral homeland county back there is 1,600 sq miles and 2,200 people (800k in the whole state). Down south where I now live is a county of 440 sq miles and a population of 160k. Yeah taxes suck but you have to fund those things somehow.
