Most creatures can figure things out. It had no idea what the intention was to start, but once they were headed to shore, I'm sure it understood in its own way.
Did they have to pick the biggest fire fighter they had? Regardless, great job. I've dealt with hogs on ice and this deer makes that experience look like a walk in the park. The patch of ice the hog was on wasn't that large but getting that 700 pound old girl to the dirt was something I never want to try again. I didn't need a rope and the ice wasn't thin or it wouldn't have held our combined 950 pounds but the traction to move her was severely lacking.
